The outdoor open set for MBC’s specially planned drama ‘Queen Seondeok” is the one for dramas for the Silla period by putting in a budget amounting to a total of 2 billion won, led by Silla Millennium Park, for outdoor drama location besides the existing a-thousand-year-old ancient city set.
The set has been developed by renewing some of the nobility villages in the existing thousand-year-old ancient city district and adding to 10 buildings of royal palaces, 9 buildings of Kim-yu-shin Hwarang[ Silla Chivalry in Silla dynasty] mountain strongholds and a Hwarang drill hall; drama shooting is being done not only on the designated set but also on every corner of the Park.
The characteristic of the newly-built set is that it was constructed by using construction materials for traditional Korean houses as they are, such as traditional tiles, material lumber, and stone; thus, it is not simply for a set for dramas or movies, but for an permanent structure that tourist can continuously visit even after the completion of a shooting process..
Particularly, the open set of Silla Millennium Park is the nation’s first mode of the set directing the Silla period and it was completed in late April this year after Sambu Construction, Co.,Ltd.-the parent company of Silla Millennium Park started work in January, 2009.
On this set of the Silla royal palace, Misil[impersonated by actress Ko, Hyeon-jeong]who is in antagonistic relationship with Queen Seondeok and her surroundings and the scenes and surroundings related to the period of chivalrous cadets of Hwarang led by Kim, Yu-shin [impersonated by actor Eom, Tai-wung] at the Hwarang mountain stronghold are being mostly shot; in addition, at the Hwarang drill hall, 10 Hwarang-related drill scenes are also being shot.
The drama “Queen Seondeok” is to be run over the period of about 6 months every Monday and Tuesday starting May 25, 2009 by the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation
Silla Millennium Park is playing a role of the motive power for Gyeongju tourism, together with the development of the set for “Queen Seondeok”, by offering a new attraction to the tourists visiting Gyeongju and drawing public attention for its value as an essential tour course for tourist home and abroad.
